Which role should you outsource first?
Start with the work that is frequent, rule-based and pulls you away from higher-value tasks. For most owners that is the inbox and diary, customer emails, data entry or bookkeeping. Write down how you do it today, record a short screen video, and hand over one task at a time.
A good test: if a task takes you more than five hours a week and you could explain it in a 10-minute video, a dedicated remote team member can almost certainly take it over.
What a remote bookkeeper can (and can't) do for your practice
A remote bookkeeper can take on almost all the processing work in a modern practice: bank reconciliations, coding, payables and receivables, VAT workpapers and payroll input. That covers most of the hours in a typical bookkeeping engagement. What stays with your qualified staff is judgement: reviewing, signing off, giving advice and managing client relationships.
The practices that do best start by splitting each engagement into prepare and review steps. Then they move the preparation steps to their Ledgerline team member one client at a time.
The capacity maths: why one bookkeeper can mean 30 more clients
If a typical small-business bookkeeping client needs 4–6 hours of processing a month, one full-time bookkeeper (about 173 hours a month) can support roughly 25–40 clients, depending on volumes and record quality.
At an average monthly fee of £150–£250 per client, that capacity can unlock significant extra revenue for the cost of one Professional Associate. The constraint becomes your review time, which is where your qualified staff add the most value.
Power and internet across our branches: how we stay online
Buyers are right to ask about power cuts. Our answer is to engineer them out: a solar array with lithium batteries sized for a full shift, a UPS on every workstation, a generator as the last resort, and two independent internet connections (fibre plus Starlink) with automatic failover.
We test failover every month, and we credit clients if an outage ever costs them more than 2 working hours in a month. Reliability is a promise in our contract.
